Games/Sports 22-Jan-2023

The 4th edition of Fit India School Week

Sports Week

Games/Sports 22-Nov-2019

Lakshmipat Singhania Academy celebrated ‘Sports Week’ from the 22nd of November to the 28th. Throughout the week, several activities were carried out and events were held for the students. These included a mix of general activities in the morning assembly as well as specific projects conducted by the students.

On the first day, there was a demonstration of several asanas and Yogic exercises during the morning assembly. There was a health talk immediately after this, which enlightened the students about the benefits of exercise in everyday life and the significance of a healthy body.

The second day’s affairs started with a debate on the motion ‘Games and Sports should be made compulsory in the school curriculum’. Two students of Class 12, Arkapravo Roy and Sabarno Sinha spoke for and against the motion respectively. While one highlighted how sports was necessary in the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle, the other gave light on the consequent deduction in academic time. The debate was followed by a speech by Principal Madam who motivated the students to exercise regularly so as to lead a healthy and fulfilling life.

The third day was the most interesting of all, and had a plethora of activities. As technology and physical fitness converged, the level of fitness of students was tested and their physical capability assessed through the Khelo India App, which was recently launched by the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, under his ‘Fit India’ campaign. The initiative of the school did not exclude the budding artists for a Poster Making Competition was organized as well. Colours, brushes and slogans came to a confluence for the theme: Fit Body-Fit Mind-Fit Environment.

On the fourth day, the bodies of the students were further subjected to tests of flexibility and physical fitness as many of them got involved in unconventional exercises such as dance, aerobics and karate.

As the baton of physical fitness was passed to the next day, a nail-biting Sports Quiz was held for all the students. It received a grand participation and students were most enthusiastic throughout to know more about the sports that is a part of general knowledge as well as the importance of physical activity and maintaining a good physique.

The week concluded with an all-encompassing activity which sought to help all people realize the importance of sports, games and physical exercise in their everyday lives. A competition was held for the students, staff and parents on the school which made them participate in some traditional and regional games of India that many of them had played as children. The Sports Week concluded on a happy note, as every person involved with the school was drawn into a collective consciousness about the importance of sports. The success of the initiative was marvelously exhibited in the form of increased awareness of, involvement in and curiosity about physical exercise.
